Designing Material Futures Event at Berlin Design Week

As part of this year’s Berlin Design Week, the Disruptive Materials Institute hosted the Designing Material Futures event at berlin textile coop. – an evening dedicated to exploring how material innovation is reshaping the future of design. In collaboration with BraveNew.design, the panel discussion Material Led Design brought together pioneers from Kaffeeform, Mujo, HILO Textiles, and Povoa Lab to discuss how emerging materials are transforming design processes, challenging established production systems, and opening new pathways towards regenerative and circular futures. The evening concluded with the opening of the exhibition Materials of Tomorrow, presenting experimental material concepts and prototypes that demonstrated the potential of materials to drive innovation across disciplines. For DMI, Designing Material Futures was more than an event – it embodied our mission to create platforms where research, design, industry, and culture come together to exchange knowledge, foster collaboration, and collectively shape sustainable material futures. We are deeply grateful to all speakers, partners, and guests who contributed to making this evening such an inspiring and generous exchange. We look forward to continuing these conversations through future events and collaborations.
